Latest update from the IIIT Battlegrounds...

    Hey everyone,

Hope ur life's is gng gud... so is mine...
well almost... staying alone at hostel with just a couple of ppl is not xactly my definition of fun, still keeping myself busy with loads of things....

Lemme give u a brief flashback.... just got over with my mid-sem xams here at IIIT for the 1st Sem... man.... was that a ride... 2 xams /day of 2 hrs each... and loads of syllabus... neways got thru them... (pretty well actually... scored the 2nd highest in the Principles of Mgt Subj. )

Now, for wats up next.. 2 things:
    1. Effervescence '06: This is our college annual fest that goes on in the form of a 5 day extravaganza... loads of events are lined up for both technical and management interests.... right now we r working on putting together a list of sponsors for the show.... hope to be able to get a decent number and amount from them.... well its really a loss for people who don't try to b on this list of sponsors... one reason being that the students try and become patrons for those who do sponsor the event... so its really a boon for the sponsors... this is besides the other obvious benefits that we offer once the firm agrees to be a sponsor...
    2. B-Cognizance: This is the college bi-monthly e-zine that we bring out in collaboration with the industry... right now we are in the process of collecting articles for the next issue... again hoping to get a still larger number of people to contribute to the list of articles both in terms of quality and quantity...

Well, when I think about it, how about you.... yes you...the avid reader of my blog.... contributing for the same... if you are a person from the advertising side of a firm, you could very well be a part of the Sponsors for the Effervescence '06... or else you could even contribute an article for the magazine if you have a flair for writing... You are most welcome to do so... You can view the respective home pages for the two (Effervescence and the B-Cog e-zine online for further details, or just leave a comment here with your mail id where I can reach you. I will get back to you myself with more details then...

Even if you are not working right now but studying, then also you can contribute... most definitely for the B-Cognizance e-zine.... So go ahead... wat r u waiting for?? Lemme know if you would be interested and then I will follow it up with you....

    Till then,

    bye n take care

    Luv to world...

Went for a trip from IIIT Allahabad...

Hey world... me... the lazy updater is back...

Well... I have been on a roll since the time I joined IIIT - A...  initially had to go thru the Orietation program... followed by the regular classes...  then we had r annual foundation day.... convocation day... and loads of fun...
The infrastructure here is gr8... but there is one thing that is surely missing here.... Holidays....  Just don't get ne leaves here...

Bought a new and my first Laptop!! Wanted one since soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long.... now I too have a laptop... gr8... Model: HP Pavillion DV2025TU; Performace: 4/5; Looks: 4/5; Features : 4.5 / 5; Battery Backup: 3 / 5; .... If u want... I would really advise u to go in for this... gives the best in class performace for the price... It even has a 1.3 MP Web cam built nto it... check out the specs here: PV Pavillion dv2025TU

Neways... soon after we were over with all this.... I had got a chance to visit my favourite place....Hyderabad... and also the place I like the least... bangalore... the only silver lining in my visit to bangalore was the time ven I got a chance to meet Sorabh.. my school time friend... http://thinkthinkthinking.blogspot.com/ had been sooooooooo long....

Well as for the trip.... it was more like creating an awareness about the MBA program in the Southern India where currently only a handful of ppl knew that there is a MBA program at IIIT-A. Did help us a lot.... but I'm waiting for the Placement season to begin to c how well the strategy actually worked...

Till then its difficult to ascertain the effectiveness of the strategy...

Hope v can do away with the excercise in about another 2-3 yrs....

Chalo.... lets c how it works out...
    Till nxt time.... byeeeeeeeeeee
    c ya again....

    IIIT Allahabad.... here I come....

Its one thing to be irregular with updating one's blog and absolutely another thing to be totally inactive...

Well I was neither of them, I was lazy :)

Ok... now its been almost 2 months since my last post on this blog, not that I didn't want to update the blog it was just that had loads of things gng on at the same time and when they were not... I thot y not relax... so that shud xplain most of the days of inactivity on this blog...

Well, now for some updates... in May, I worked hard on the bugs assigned to me and was almost able to achieve a day's turnaround time on those... thereafter I was able to spend almost 2 weeks doing nothing much but having fun...

Thereafter... I was suppposed to appear for another MBA ntrance xam at IIIT Allahabad in june(http://www.iiita.ac.in) ... well I got my result soon after that... Guess what.... I got selected!! Yups... m gng to IIIT Allahabad for MBA(IT).

Ya... so that brings us back to the topic of my office.... well I resigned from office soon after the declaration of the result and then just yesterday was my last day at office here in hyderabad. Now I will b moving back to delhi and then from there to Allahabad....

Resigning from office was an xperience in itself... got those butterflies in my stomach.... dunno whther this gamble is gonna pay off well in the future or not... leaving the comfort of getting a fixed paycheck and moving into student mode again... many have advised me against this step... but then there have been many who have e1 supported this step...

Lets just hope that all this works out fine for me...

    IIIT Allahabad.... here I come....

    The Blunder(read: Mandal) - Reloaded

Like the Matrix program that just wudn't go away... and the different ppl who lost their lives fighting it .... Mandal Commission has returned to haunt India...

Govt. has agreed to have a 49.5% reservation for OBC's!! Take this... there are many SC's and ST's in India who are earning in a year... more than a good Software Dev can earn in two...which is by far one of the more lucrative professions in India now a days... Y look far I had ppl in my college who had claimed to b from SC/ST background and paid hefty donations to get into it as NRI ppl... and then they want reservations... believe it or not... its gonna backfire on the govt...

Accepted the OBC's form a large pool of the voters but to satisfy one segment of the society the govt cannot put the other on the back burner... that too on a high flame....quite literally though... there have been several instances of students setting themselves afire the last time the mandal commission was set up... there was a huge outrage about it... that young man lost his life...

there must be a better way to deal with the current situation... how about increasing the number of colleges rather than increasing the quotas... or else how about increasing the amount spent on the education of the ppl in the primary and secondary school rather than seeing that being siphoned off by the corrupt govt officials... how about improving the govt schools infrastructure to bring them at par with the other private educational institutes...

I believe the premier institutes like IIT's could help in the current scenario by probably doing away with the recent policy change that they brought about that wud bar a person from appearing more than a couple of times in the entrance xam... probably by aloowing more attempts they could give a better and afairer chance to the the ppl from the other OFC's... (Other Forward Classes)...

I don't think that the time is far when the govt wud actually have to decalre a section of the society as an OFC and then have reservations for that too...

Even the EC has taken exception to it now... but lets see whether they actually manage to bring this nonsense to an end or not?? Till that time.... guys n gals... who are trying for the IIT's and IIM's... Best of luck....

    Lull before the storm.....

For the past couple of months... I had been busy.... rather very busy... I had mentioned my schedule in the previous entry...

Then I got over with my pending interviews for the b-schools...

Finally, there was rest for me...

I rested... then worked at my office... then rested and then again worked.... then came the storm.... in so many different shapes and sizes... To start with... result of TAPMI, Manipal...

Well... I didn't clear it.. what the helll!! I slogged for the past 6 months.... and then I'm told... not gud enuf... never mind.... I will b back... again next time... that's what I thot.... till I saw the shape of things to come in the future.... Mandal Comission - Reloaded.

Ya the same thing that has been bugging so many others across India... Y the helll the political parties burn the dreams of the general public at the very moment they go in for elections... Till a couple of days ago, I used to think so highly of r PM Manmohan Singh.... but now... I think he will start losing his credibility in the face of the nation, if the Mandal comissions recommendations pass through... so much for the hope of trying again and making it thru the next time.....

Next.... just when I thot it was all drawing to a close... a week full of turmoil.... I get another news.... Judas didn't really betray Jesus... now that's something debatable ... but the Scientists seem to have already made up their minds about it and I don't know... but ya... they have convinving evidence for the same. I'm pretty much sure this is gonna cause some trouble somewhere... just a matter of time...

Well so much for the weekly news roundup.... now lets have ablow by blow account in detail....
    March 26

What kept me busy all this while...

    Hiiiiiiii everyone....
    Long time no c...

Well I had been preparing for some entrance xams for some b-schools here in India...
Now that they r over, probably I can take some rest and relax....

Here's my normal day during those preparations:
4:30am - Get up and start getting ready
5:30am - Drudgingly get out of home and head for the early morning classes
6:15am - Class begins... discuss the latest topics regarding the world and India (These were basically practise GD sessions)
8:30am - Class over. By this time on an average we had a chance to discuss atleast 3 different topics or mayb 2 topics and 1 case study.
    8:45am - I'm at office.
[Work - Work - Work- Work.....]
7:30pm - Out of Office. Atlast!!
8:30pm - Reach home. Chat with my folks there... wish everybody, gud morning, gudafternoon and a gudevening.
9:30pm - Sit down for dinner.
10pm - Read up some newspapaer or magazine...
    11:30pm - ZZZZzzzzzzzzz

And that goes on day after day after day... for 2 months.... :(

M almost crazy.... at the end of it.... and then happens the nightmare....
R teachers at the GD sessions mention a term "GD Fatigue". Its when you have been practiciing so much that u get bored and tired of it and then lose interest in it.... I kind of feel that I went thru this.... but luckily got out of it soon...

then went for a couple of GD/PI sessions.... now m awaiting the results....
Lets c what happens.... hoping for the best....

    India Calling....err... ICICI calling...

Today I was really pissed off at the ICICI rep who called up at our office...

That guy came to our office and the office manager probably shooed him away... Away he went... but not without an intention to get back...

Now as luck would have it for me... the sys admin of our office used to sit in the cubicle that I sit in right now... so he had set the default ext for all the calls to this cubicle... he never bothered to change it after he moved out of this cubicle... No, We do not have a receptionist...

Now it so happened that everybody in my cubicle except me was either on leave or were supposed to be coming in for the nite shift... So me alone in my cubicle with a phone that is bound to ring everytime somebody calls... as that is the default ext is set for that... and then add to it a a "critical" bug in our s/w assigned to me... perfect recipe to drive me outta my wits.... and then this guy from ICICI calls up for the first time... I pass the call to the req ext... this was just the first of the lot to follow....If only I knew....

This smart guy started calling our office number... and then kept asking for the extension of each of the cubicle sequentially... god knows how... but he e1 knew who was sitting in which cubicle and what was the extension to his/her cubicle!!

I realized the pattern only when he called up and asked to be passed to the extension 28... now as always... I just passed it to that ext and put down the receiver... the phone rang again as soon as I did this... That's ven I remembered... that's my ext... :) ... that A** asked for every person in my cubicle before finally asking for me... there are a total of 4 ppl who can be seated in r cubicle at a time easily... and finally.. he blurted the cliche... "Sir, I'm calling from ICICI bank...blah.... blah.... blah... free lifetime card.... blah... blah...", I politely refused him and hung... guess what... this guy then calls up again!! Its already happened 6 times... and then again.... felt like kicking him... this time I scolded him.... finally there were no calls from ICICI for the rest of the day... thankfully!!
This eventually reminded me of the day when I appeared for an mba xam and when I had to write an analysis of an issue on the same topic: Telemarketing... That day I had written in favor of this....and got a score of 5.0!! How elated I was!!... If only I could go back and change my opinion once...!!

Oh god of business... save us from this telemarketing!!

Anybody got any suggestions on how to handle such chronic pain in the u know what....
If yes... drop a comment... Might try some or all of 'em.... if they suite....

With great power comes great responsibility... (Spiderman - I)

    Hi!

Today Rahul Gandhi made his first speech at the on going congress  Plenary Session here in Hyderabad.

I read the text of his speech as put up at the Rediff Site... this is the url : http://in.rediff.com/news/2006/jan/23cong4.htm ... I kind of liked his introspective talk... for a change I feel like there is really someone who really wants to work for the betterment of India... One just wonders whether this inital determination would eventually fizzle out in the face of the widespread corruption here...

Many a times I have had this feeling that we are just not concentrating on the problems enough... People like to say that we were ruined by the british rule of so many years... I would like to draw attention of all those who think on these lines towards Japan... Look at that amazing country... It was practically crippled after the WW II. But still, the people there with their hard work and dedication are way ahead of India... its one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world... (Hope u saw the movie "Armegeddon"... Remember the dialogue where the Russian Cosmonaut remarks when the Shuttle doesnt lift off initially from the Comet towards the end of the movie..."American components, Russian Components... all Made in Taiwan!!"... This one had me in splits...) We need to take a step back and ask this question from each one of us... ourselves...

    Where have we gone wrong....

I really beleive that the current crop of leaders that India has... is aging and really doesn't match up to our expectations... barring a few learned people like Manmohan Singh... President Kalaam , P. Chidambram... and a few others... the rest are nothing but dumb guys... insensitive to the need of the public at large... power hungry... out to ruin India. Their right place would probably be somewhere behind the bars in the Tihar Jail.

What we really need is a strong leadership that can really do away with some of the age old problems that India has been facing and take it further ahead in the world... till the time that the likes of L K Advani, and the others keep harping on the issue of Religion... till the time the govt keeps assigning minority status to different communities rather than instilling a sense of belonging to this nation, till the time the Kashmir Issue remains unresolved, till the time the population explosion is not controlled... we can simply forget the furthering of the India as a strong society...

As far as the Ayodhaya issue is concerned... which by far is one of the most sensitive topics to be discussed in the world of politics in India... and the fact that govt come and go harping on the issue of mandir or masjid... I think I have a soln for it already... wonder how many would really agree to it ... but here goes... How about building a Monument on the lines of the Lotus Temple in Delhi... in Ayodhaya at the disputed site... that should take care of not one or two but almost all the religions... anybody can come and pray according to their religious belief... nobody interfers with the others beliefs and customs... I don't see anything wrong with that.... Yeah I agree some of the fanatics would argue that there was some mandir there and it shudn't have been displaced in the first place... But 1 Question: Can u change what has happened?? If your answer is no... then please keep your mouths shut and listen to what I have to say... its more important to take the country forward than putting the religion ahead of everything else...

One thing that I really like is the way our President Mr. Kalaam takes interest in the children of our country... I really love his attitude... We need more people like him at the helm of the affairs in India.. People with a Vision to make r country the strongest in hte world... People above the regular dirty politics... or in the words of Mr.Kalaam himself... Political Politcs... We need more people who are interested in the Developmental Politics (Another term coined by our President)

I was really dismayed by a news article that came up in the TOI today... says that the President is contemplating stepping down from the office after the term is over next year for good... in other words... no second term... that would be the worst that can happen to our country... A person of his calibre giving up...
I know its highly improbable that he reads this blog... but is nebody can get to him or if he by any chance does visit the blog... I request you to please stay there... India needs you.

Now as far as the newer breed of the political leaders is concerned... Well ... don't have much to say about them... I thin we need to adopt a wait and watch approach for these people... lets see what do they have to bring to the table.... Hope they can achieve some thing gud as envisioned by some former gr8 leaders.. for India... what their kins in politics cudn't do...

Lets hope everything works out well for India... heres wishing us all a Very Best of Luck for the future...

    Our Kerala Trip from Office...

    Hi all!

In Sept 2004, I had just joined my current office when one day I learnt that theres some plan to take the whole India team out on a trip to Kerala... Initially I was not very sure about gng there or not... but finally decided in favour of gng... Lucky me...

Had a blast there!! What with the beautiful backwaters in Allepey and the great mountain ranges in Munnar... seems it is a pretty hot destination for a cool trip to the hills in summers... and believe me I know why now... The scenery that you get to see there is simply awesome... I have been to manali too... but that place doesn't match up against it... one reason is that though it gets cold there... it never is so cold that you can't venture out.. which is very unlike manali... it gets really cold there and all u could do is stay tucked inside ur quilts...??

The only thing that can pour water on ur plans to go sight seeing there is really one thing... Rains. They are untimely and continue for long hours... so that can really "dampen" ur spirits if you r not prepared for them...

Well, after Munnar we went to Thekkady, did some shopping there and also visited the Periyar wildlife sanctuary... or I think it was the Tiger reserve to be specific... but we didn't really get to see any tigers though...

From there we all moved on to Allepey... That was another treat... Stayed at the Lake Palace resort there... and that was another amazing experience... it had a pretty decent swimming pool... we went for a boat ride in the famed back waters of Kerala and that was fun too... If I'm not wrong... it was probably organized by te hotel ppl only... and yes... I drove the motor boat around for about 10-15 minutes... that was a new experience too!!

All in all... had loads of fun... got to see so many different places... went to a church for the first time at Thekkady... not a very big one but was gud enuf...

If anybody is planning to to go Kerala for a trip I would seriously advice including Munnar and Allepey in their itinerary... and don't miss out on the boat ride in the back waters of kerala...

And if u njoi the trip and get to see some other places too, then.... do lemme know too!! Mayb next time around I mite go there myself...

    Anyways... Bon Voyage!!
    bye...

PS: Will be uploading some images from the trip soon enuf for everybody... keep chkng this blog out for more...

    latest novel I read....

WARNING... READ AT UR OWN RISK.... THIS BLOG HAS MENTION OF THE CLIMAX OF "DECEPTION POINT - DAN BROWN".

Guys.... if there is something reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyy slow in this world... then it has got to be the first 50 chapters of the Dan Brown Novel... Deception Point...

It took me a total of two weeks to finish off that novel.... no I don't read that slow... its just that i fell asleep everytime I picked up that novel... it  was a total dissappointment after the other two novels that I had read by him... Da vinci code and Angels and demons.... both had a pretty gud pace at which they proceeded...
but one thing I must say is that .... the fact that the climax of the novel was really fundoo... I had never expected that Pickering would eventually turn out to be the evil guy....Of all the world... Pickering!!

    that was a real twist...

As far as Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons were concerned... after reading a few relevant chapters... I guess most if not all would be able to guess who is gonna be the evil guy here... but I can surely bet that in this one... all fingers would have pointed to Tench initally...

Anyways... if you can get through the inital slowmo of the novel... I guess u wud definitely find the novel worth a read...

    Happy reading...

    Adios...

    MY KIND OF DOCTOR

    Hi!
Got this in a mail.... liked it a lot... so posting here...
    read and njoi...
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
     MY KIND OF DOCTOR

I DON'T KNOW WHAT DOCTOR WROTE THIS, BUT I LIKE HIM!

    HEALTH QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this
    true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't
waste  them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up
your heart  will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can
extend the life  of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer?
    Take a nap.

    ---------------------------------

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay
    and
corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than
    an
efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need
    grain?
Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy
vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily
    allowance of vegetable products.

    ---------------------------------

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine,
that  means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even
more of  the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms
    up!

    ---------------------------------

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to
    one.
If  you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

    ---------------------------------

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular
    exercise  program?

A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No
    Pain...Good!

    ---------------------------------

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!. Foods are fried these days in vegetable
    oil.
In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be
    bad  for you?

    ---------------------------------

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the
    middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You
should  only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

    ---------------------------------

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy? HELLO ..... Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's
    the  best feel-good food around!

    ---------------------------------

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

    ---------------------------------

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

    ---------------------------------

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had
    about  food and diets.

And remember: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body,
but  rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in
the  other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming
    "WOO HOO,  What a Ride!"
